You’re Not Alone
I’m a young Catholic. Before I was confirmed, I honestly didn’t think much about my being Catholic. It just wasn’t on my radar. I didn’t understand a lot about the faith, and I didn’t care too greatly.
But then I was confirmed, and POW! I cared! (If anyone says there’s nothing in the Catholic sacraments…I beg to differ.) I essentially never went to Mass before my confirmation. But afterward, I WANTED to go, and I do. Also, I started googling all sorts of Catholic stuff, and was astounded at how little knowledge I actually had about my faith. I still have tons to learn and understand, but it’s a life-long process really. Fact of the matter is, I’ve really embraced my Catholicism.
I started observing the world around me, wondering if there were others who love being Catholic just as much as I do. And I don’t mean the old people at Saturday Vigil Mass. I’m talking MY generation.
But I didn’t see much evidence of it. I see very few teens at Mass. At school, no one talks about religion; you know, separation of church and state, right?
Naturally, the question that came to mind is, “Am I just weird? Why does it seem like no one else my age is into Catholicism?”
But then I attended a Catholic youth conference and saw that there ARE a lot of teens into Catholicism. In fact, there are a lot of teens REALLY into Catholicism.
You’re not alone. If you’re young and Catholic and love it, you’re not the only one. That’s my inspiration for making this blog; I want other young Catholics to know that they’re not alone. Catholicism isn’t a thing of the past. It’s a thing of the past, present, AND future!
I love being Catholic! For my conversion story parts 1-3, see here, here, and here. I am a college student from the United States. Want to chat? Want me to write about something in particular? Either comment or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org!
